> Accepted abstracts submitted after the March 2 deadline will not be published in Toxicon. We will produce a meeting supplement in which these will be included, along with any accompanying figures from abstracts, since Toxicon is not publishing these. In addtion there are at least three other categories of abstracts that may be published in the supplement only: 1) Abstracts that are vague or only descriptive of what will be presented; 2) Previously published abstracts; and 3) Abstracts that are requested by the authors not to be published in Toxicon for whatever reason (e.g. data embargo, etc.). Please email me (sseifert@salud.unm.edu) if you do not want your abstract published in Toxicon.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF I.S.T
Dear Fellow Toxinologists and Friends
The 17th World Congress on Animal, Plant and Microbial Toxin of the International Society on Toxinology will be held in Hilton Village, Hawaii from July 8 -13, 2012. This time we are combining the world Congress with the venom week 2012. Over the years there have been concerns that the Society and the meetings have not given sufficient attention to clinical toxinology. This world congress will be well balanced between basic toxinology research and clinical toxinology. The congress programme is well organized with many experts from various parts of the world participating. There will be a special plenary session including "Biotoxins and bioterrorism". "Drug discovery from natural toxins". The local organizing committee led by Carl and Steve as well as other members are not leaving any stones unturned to make this remarkable congress a memorable one. We also hope to invite many clinical toxinologists from Asia and Africa to highlight the
problems of envenomations which has been described as the "Disease of the poor". While we bring frontier research as basic toxinology we also look into the possibility of the basic research turned into application by translation research with particular reference to human treatment.
There will be also discussion on the initiatives of the IST, such as Nomenclature Committee, Global Snake Bite Initiative, Clinical Toxinology Group, etc.
We are also encouraging the young toxinologists and research students to attend the World Congress. If there is sufficient number of students we will be able to organize a "Student Forum".
Hawaii is well known for its tourist attractions, fabulous sea beaches, volcanoes as well as exotic delicious food and also a melting pot of culture.
As President of the International Society on Toxinology, I warmly welcome you all to Hawaii to attend the World Congress. I guarantee a very good scientific program and a memorable social event which will remain in your memory for a long time.
WITH BEST WISHES,
Gopal.

> Keep the March 2 abstract submission deadline in sight. Abstracts submitted by that date, if accepted, will be eligible for platform presentation and will be published in Toxicon. After March 2, 2012: 1) We do not guarantee consideration for acceptance; 2) If considered accepted, poster presentation will be the only option; and 3) Your abstract will not be published in Toxicon.
> Individuals from countries not in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program will need a letter of invitation to the meeting in order to obtain the required visa to visit the U.S. (information moved to registration page above).
> I've added a request that abstracts which will need English language assistance be submitted by February 20, 2012, since the deadline for us to send the abstracts to Toxicon is shortly after March 2.
> Get the bug. Put it everywhere:
> Online registration is now open. Click on the "Registration" tab above and follow the link to the registration page.
> We are actively soliciting abstracts regarding the history of all aspects of toxinology. If there are sufficient numbers of abstracts, a separate session may be held. We would also like to use historical vignettes to introduce meeting sessions. These should be very short. In the "Submission Category" drop-down menu are listings for "History of Toxinology, Full Abstracts" and "History of Toxinology, Vignettes." Please direct your submissions to these categories.
> The special rate code for the meeting hotel is now posted on the Hilton Hawaiin Village tab. There is also a special rate for students. Contact Catherine Wood with confirmation of student status for the special rate code. These are first-come, first-served, so make your reservations early. If these rooms sell out, we won't have more at these prices. If there are unused student-rate rooms still available after a yet-to-be-determined date, we will make them available to those with financial need or special circumstances.
